Jets acquire WR Davante Adams from Raiders
The New York Jets have acquired wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a conditional draft pick, the teams announced Tuesday.
The trade will reunite Adams and quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who played together on the Green Bay Packers from 2014 to 2021. Las Vegas will get a third-round pick that can escalate to a second-rounder if Adams or the team meet certain benchmarks.
Adams, a six-time Pro Bowl selection, has 18 catches for 209 yards and one touchdown in three games this season. He has not played since Sept. 22 because of a hamstring injury.
The Jets hope Adams will be able to revive a passing offense that has been middling for much of the season. New York is averaging only 217.2 passing yards per game, 16th in the NFL. Rodgers, meanwhile, has not thrown for 300 yards since he joined the Jets.
In eight seasons together on the Packers, Rodgers and Adams connected 622 times for 7,590 yards and 69 touchdowns. Rodgers won three of his four MVP awards with Adams as his teammate. In 2020, Adams led all receivers with 18 touchdowns, and the next year he led the league in receptions and receiving yards.
The two connected soon after the trade, as Adams made a brief appearance with Rodgers during the latter’s weekly Tuesday interview on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
New York is 2-4 and in third place in the AFC East after it lost to the Buffalo Bills on Monday. The Adams trade is the team’s second major move of the season after it fired head coach Robert Saleh on Oct. 8.
The Jets have lost three straight games after Monday’s loss and are averaging only 15.3 points in their last three weeks.
The Raiders are also 2-4 and have lost three out of their last four. The team has struggled to find consistency at quarterback, as both Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell have started games this year. Las Vegas’s overall passer rating of 82.9 is eighth worst in the NFL.
Adams reportedly told the team he would prefer to be traded last month. Las Vegas was reported to be looking for a second-round pick in exchange, delaying finding a suitor.

Adams, 31, was a second-round pick of Green Bay in 2014. He spent nine seasons with the Packers before he was traded to the Raiders in March 2022. Last year, Adams caught 103 passes for 1,516 yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns.
In 153 career games, Adams has 890 receptions for 10,990 yards and 96 touchdowns.
